2012 Engineers Week DiscoverE Summit Opens Nominations
September 29, 2011

Nominations are now open for teachers to be considered for Engineers Week’s new DiscoverE Educator Recognition Award Program. Nominations will be accepted through December 1, 2011, and winners will be announced at the 2012 Engineers Week DiscoverE Summit in Washington, DC, on February 22nd.

Engineers Week and The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2012 chair, established the DiscoverE Educator Recognition Award Program to identify and celebrate exceptional STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) educators who are helping students discover engineering. The goal of the program is to tell the compelling stories of exceptional teachers who have made an impact on their students.

“The DiscoverE Educator Recognition Award program focuses on the “unsung heroes” behind many exceptional engineers—the teachers,” said Victoria A. Rockwell, 2011-12 president of ASME. The program offers engineers and engineering students the opportunity to recognize teachers who are helping their students excel in STEM subjects.

Teacher nominees must be full-time U.S. or international school-based educators teaching in grades 6-12 and they must be nominated by an engineer or engineering student (college or graduate level). A panel of distinguished national education, engineering and business leaders will be organized by the National Engineers Week Foundation to determine winners.

Up to three educators each will receive a $2,000 cash prize, a digital projector from 3M and a trip to Washington, DC, during Engineers Week (February 19-25, 2012) to receive their awards and tell their stories to an audience of thought leaders at the 2012 EWeek DiscoverE Summit. Eight runners-up will receive $500 each, a 3M Shoot & Share camera, and a 3M gift pack. An additional 12 honorable mentions will receive 3M gift packs.

Nomination forms are now available in the announcements section of and at
